Reaction among Mainstream Movie Critics remarkably mixed. James Carroll's rip job in Bahston Globe knocked around. But surprisingly thoughtful one from Inquirer's Carrie Rickey. Only gave it two out of possible four stars. But was surprised that it wasn't the anti-Semitic propaganda she expected. Didn't expect uniformly glowing reviews. Or the remarkably thoughtful examinations issued. Maybe Mel and Co. registered with them- in a place that they didn't expect. And--- boffo crowds for sneak preview in....of all places.....New York City. Will be fascinated to see how the echoes reverberate in all kinds of places....presidential election, gay marriage, ongoing cultural wars, the state of American Catholicism.....
